For Finders of Pets Who Have been Killed.
One of the lost difficult things we all face as we grow older is the loss of a loved one.
If you are at all like us we go to funerals not because we like to, not because we want to but because we have been there and because we know that there is no more important time in our lives when we need people just to stop their lives for a second and share your grief and your sense of loss. It is the right thing to do because their time will come too and it is hoped that someone will share that same courtesy and their grief to help them.
So It is with the loss of a pet. They are a Family Member too.
Many pet owners whose pet are missing never learn what happened to them. They search for weeks or months always hoping to catch a glimpse of them somewhere in a field or even in somebody else's yard so they know that they are okay.
I guess everybody is different with how they handle death. Some can stare it down and accept it. Some run and hide from it and never want to know.
Our Personal Belief is people need closure. It is like at the Trade Center, the search went on not because there was any hope of finding anyone alive but that we, as Americans, try to bring our dead home. To some of us our pets are our family....
We believe that a Pet's Family should know what happened to them...not the graphic details, just enough to know that he or she will no longer be with them and that there is no longer any hope and the search can stop.
It is important that this only happen with a definite ID.
We believe in searching for a pet until they are found, no matter what that means. You don't give up on family.
If You have found a pet that has been killed and are willing to share that with the family. You truly are a hero. A noble person of utmost character. We will offer to go with you anytime, anyplace not always certain how it will be received but secure in the knowledge that we as human beings, have done the right thing. If you would prefer that we pass on the information for you we promise to do that in the most humane way possible based upon what you have told us. Thanks you for caring and taking the time to stop. We can't stress how important it is to verify that the pet that has been identified is, in fact, the missing pet belonging to a particular family.
Anything that we can bring them to share the life of their pet would be welcome assuming it is not a gory reminder of a tragic accident.

Try to remember now that your pet is gone that there are many others bursting with love to share in area shelters under a sentence of death. They will never be the same. They will never replace your pet. But they will help you share your grief and just like when you were a kid...when you needed a shoulder to cry on it was usually the furry ones that you could always count on through thick and thin to be there for you. Don't be so busy that you don't have time to let them love you.
